BBMP pulls down illegal billboards

17th December 08 ,Bangalore On December 1 the BBMP (Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike) initiated a drive against illegal billboards in Bangalore city. Close to 85 advertisement posters and billboards have already faced the axe. Specifically it is the East zone of the BBMP that is behind the drive. Commercial Street a prominent shopping area bore the brunt with the BBMP collecting fines of Rs 38,000 from there alone. Sources at the BBMP said that the drive will also be carried forward to Brigade Road and MG Road. These are premium adverting spots that garner huge incomes for media owners.
